INTENTION
Whenever Global Warming comes up in conversation, it’s usually a real mood killer. The distinct doomsday vibe the subject brings to the table rarely leads anywhere but to a dark and gloomy place. The consequences of Global Warming are far-reaching and unpredictable. To react feels overwhelming because the necessary measures are immense - even in the smallest everyday activities one will have to make make radical changes. Adding to the grimness of the situation is the realisation that not one single person can make a difference - we will ALL have to pull together to drive the profound changes our climate needs. That infuses the notion that the situation can’t change. It is as if the disaster has already spiralled out of control and cannot be rolled back.
This is probably why Global Warming is not the most popular topic for small talk - to bring it up is as sociable as pointing out a fingernail in the soup. That’s unfortunate, because the subject is too important to be ignored and much too horrible not to be made fun of. As with all things sinister, the way to approach Global Warming is with a disarming laugh. A laugh that allows for sizing up the problems instead of suppressing a growing sense of urgency. That laugh is our mission.
